Michael Tait, formerly with DC Talk and now leading the band Tait, forwarded the note above
to us. The listener heard his song, All You Got, and it saved his life. It is stories like this that drive us in
our daily struggle to keep Positive Hits 89.9 and 90.5 on the air. The fact is that thousands of people,
many who do not know the Lord, listen to our station each and every day.
That is why it breaks my heart to tell you that the original PER transmitter, our flagship 89.9
covering so much of Northern Virginia, is on the verge of shutting down for good.
When 89.9 is down, every transmitter from Winchester to Fredericksburg to Richmond is silent.
It is over 10 years old and could literally be weeks away from being beyond repair. (I admit, it
was not “top of the line” when we installed it, but we purchased what we could afford at the time to get
on the air.)
Our engineers (they really are behind the scene heroes) have tirelessly worked on it over the
last few months, and will not promise us more than one day at a time! They have done their best, often
burning the midnight oil to troubleshoot and repair the old transmitter - so we can be there with hope
for that one with a breaking heart or otherwise needing to hear God’s message of HOPE.
You will never know how much it hurts us when the station cannot be at full power… or worse,
yet… silent! We give it our all. When we cannot deliver our programming, our ministry, it breaks our
hearts.
You may have noticed in recent weeks there are times when we can’t be on the air at full power.
The fact is that sometimes recently, we have been completely off air. While you have been frustrated
and our engineers have been scrambling to get us back on the air, I have been crying out “What if
somebody needs us right now?”
What if… a hurting teen or someone who has lost his job or a single mom with no milk for her
baby turns on the radio when our signal is down… (Of course, I wonder what those dear people, like
you, think when they listen one day and we are gone the next – we sound so unreliable. Do you wonder
if we are doing our best?)
From the beginning we have relied on God’s promise; that HE would supply through HIS
people. I have nowhere else to turn except to friends like you to ask for help.
It’s time for another step of faith. A new transmitter is going to cost $62,000...
The current transmitter was built in 1997. Gas for your car in 1997 was $1.25 per gallon. A loaf
of bread was just $1.25 or less and a gallon of milk was about $2.78. The fact is that the summer of
2008 is a terrible time to ask dear friends like you for help, but we really have no choice.
You have helped us faithfully in the past. You are our partner. You kept us on the air, you have
helped us grow. I am coming to you now, amidst the busy summer, as gas prices climb higher and
higher and an uncertain economy… to ask you to take a step of faith with me.
I am taking the step of faith. Our Board of Directors is taking a step of faith:
We have ordered
the new transmitter …it will be here in just a few weeks.
This transmitter will help us reach out to more than 3 million people in Northern Virginia.
$62,000 sounds like a lot of money, but when you look at it through God’s eyes it is a one-time cost
of just 2 cents per soul. Just think of it, 2 cents to broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to someone
who needs to hear the love of Christ through worship, music and the Word.
I must ask you to help us today make our transmitter a reality. I am urging you to send as large
a gift as you can. A gift of $10,000 will help us reach potentially 500,000 people! Is there someone
who could do that? $1,000 will help us reach 50,000 souls. Your gift of $500 will help us with
broadcasting to 25,000 people. $100 will reach 5000 people… Just think about it… a gift of just $25
helps us reach as many souls as an entire small town.
Will you help us? Your gift means that you will be directly involved in bringing the Gospel to
so many in need of hope, encouragement and Christ’s love – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Sincerely,

Frankie Morea
General Manager
P.S. The weak signals are a looming sign that time is running out. Our entire Northern VA network
depends on 89.9. We must have finances in hand in the next several weeks to be able to begin
installation. Your gift will have a tremendous impact in reaching our community and ministering to
those in need. Please help.
